Prism Tats New Album ‘Mamba’ is on its way!
Prism Tats have announced the release of their sophomore record on ANTI-Records, due out on March 2nd.
Garett van der Spek is the L.A.-based singer/songwriter behind Prism Tats, originally from Durban, South Africa, he has now relocated to the U.S.
In 2014 Prism Tats was founded after years of playing in local bands and other various solo projects, only to be quickly picked up by ANTI- Records in 2015, after being discovered at SXSW.
His self titled debut was released in 2016 and Prism Tats promoted it whilst touring with Indie legends Guided By Voices and Nada Surf.
Recorded with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall), ‘Mamba’ explores themes of self-inflicted isolation, working-class hopelessness, and the emotional damage of technology addiction, van der spek, said: “Most of these new songs came from taking in what’s going on in the world today, and being afraid of the future we’re headed toward”
Mamba has a double meaning to its name “It’s the name of a venomous snake, and in my hometown it’s a slang term for the biggest or meanest of something,” says van der Spek.
He goes on to explain that the word Mamba embodies the sense of fear and defiance throughout the album and is especially evident in its epic title track. “The song is partly about letting go of that fear,” says van der Spek. “When I say ‘Give me the mamba,’ I mean ‘Give me the whole experience’: the good and the bad and everything else that might exist in between.”
Today to celebrate the upcoming release of Mamba, Prism Tats has premiered the video for ‘Daggers’ directed by Jonny Look, this home-video styled grainy format shows of his twisted humour.
