New Community Neighbourhood Centre opening
Local Residents are to benefit from a brand new £2 million community neighbourhood centre next month, The Custom House and Canning Town Community Neighbourhood Centre, part of the rejuvenated Rathbone Market in Barking Road, will open its doors on Monday 11 September.
The building includes a range of community spaces that can be used by local organisations, with the Canning Town Library, currently opposite the market, relocating to the new building that took a year to transform.
Facilities in the new building include study and reading rooms, facilities for self check-in and out of books, films and CDs loans, computers, free wifi and public toilets.
The official ribbon cutting was today, however an open day will also commence on the 16th September between 11am and 4pm to showcase the new building and its facilities to the local community that it will serve.
Sir Robin said: “Community Neighbourhood centres play a key role in helping us to achieve our vision of strong and cohesive communities.” adding that “This new centre will provide local residents, groups and organisations, the perfect facility to come together to find out more about getting involved in their local area”
The council is currently looking into new uses for the current Canning Town Library building in the future.
