Olympic Stadium transformation in stills
Work has begun on the transformation of the Olympic Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and will be captured by state of the art time lapse cameras for the public to check in on the progress. The multi use stadium is a part of the E20 Stadium partnerships legacy plans, it will host 5 of the Rugby World Cups 2015 games and become the home of West Ham United Football club from 2016.
Cameras are positioned in three places in and around the venue and the world can watch as its longest cantilevered roof is installed. The record breaking roof is twice the size of the original one and will cover every seat in the stadium improving acoustics and the viewing of live music and sports events for the stadiums visitors.
Stuart Fraser, Project Director for Balfour Beatty said: “The installation of the time-lapse cameras gives everyone a chance to follow the transformation work. It is also a fantastic opportunity for West Ham United FC supporters to see their new home as it evolves.”
The cameras will capture many of the milestones of the stadiums transformation including the raising of the new light paddles, the laying of the pitch ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015, the installation of new retractable seating, the unveiling of the athletics track and the laying of the new football pitch ahead of West Ham United’s move to the Stadium for the 2016/17 football season.
Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales said: “The Stadium is an inspirational place. People now have a window through which they can see it being transformed into a world class attraction, resulting in a lasting community legacy of jobs, education and grassroots sport. That has to be good for the residents of Newham, London and the nation as a whole.”
The time lapse photos of the stadium are available at any time 24 hours a day on the Parks Website here and footage of the milestones will be made available on the Parks YouTube Channel here
