New councillor elected for Beckton
Beckton has a new councillor, Toni Wilson, after the ward by-election held on Thursday 11th September 2014 as a result of the death of a councillor earlier this year.
Out of the seven candidates that stood in the election Toni Wilson secured the majority of the vote, from the 18.86 per cent turnout at the polls.
Returning officer Kim Bromley-Derry said: “It is with some sadness that we have held this election today, but I would like to thank all the candidates and staff who participated in this by-election.”
Nearly 2000 residents came to the polls to vote in the by-election, called after a short illness led to the death of Labour councillor Alec Kellaway, earlier this summer in June.
Newly elected Councillor Tonii Wilson said: “Thank you to the residents of Beckton for placing their trust in me. I will endeavour to serve the community well and look forward to working with the Mayor and my fellow councillors over the next four years.”
