Extension of Clapton FC clubhouse hours rejected
Newham council have rejected Chief Executive of Clapton Football Club, Vincent McBeans, application to extend the hours of their clubhouse to serve alcohol and play music and films to 4am on Saturdays and sundays and 2am on mondays.
The club in Upton Park Lane, Forest Gate, also requested to extend the hours they can play music outside from 7pm to 9pm five times a year.
Local residents, Newham’s noise nuisance team and the Metropolitan Police opposed the application, which included the residents lodging a petition with the licensing sub-committee against the change in hours due to noise pollution backed by the police.
In the license sub-committee meeting, held on August 19th, the club’s chief executive explained to the councillors that the use of the license would be occasional rather then routined. However a report from the council’s noise nuisance team presented a number of occasions when officers were called to the club, after receiving residential complaints early this summer.
After deliberation and careful consideration of the views of police, the noise nuisance team and local residents, considering the clubs previous failure to combat noise pollution, the licensing sub-committee rejected the application on August 22nd.
Chairman of the licensing sub-committee councillor Ian Corbett said: “Newham Council has a duty to protect residents from potential issues with noise pollution and anti-social behaviour and the fact is this club is in the heart of a residential area and extending its licence would impact on the quality of life of those living nearby. We have listened to the concerns raised by the club’s neighbours in their petition and the objections from the police and this has informed our decision to reject this licence extension.”
