Newham is not done with summer fun
Newham is preparing for their last big event of the summer at the upcoming Waterfront Festival this month. The free event takes place on the historic Royal Docks on saturday 20th September from 2pm – 8pm.
The event includes a live music stage that will feature 70s UK soul sensation The Real Thing, home-grown talent Candy Apple Blue and Heart FM’s DJ Roberto. The evening will be finished off with a spectacular fireworks display set to music at 7.15pm.
The fun at Royal Victoria Dock includes lots of water activities you can take a pleasure boat trip or join the Newham Sea Cadets rowing your own boat, free of charge. There will also be the chance to give wake-boarding or paddle boarding a try at a reduced price.
Meanwhile on shore residents can build a coral reef out of recycled material, pan for gold, try tying knots or climbing a wall. For the under 5′s there is a special play area with face painting and balloon modelling, and for the adults there is also the chance to take a Zumba or Salsa class on the beach.
Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, said: “The Waterfront Festival is a fantastic opportunity for Newham residents to enjoy a range of different activities in the historic Royal Docks”
Residents can learn more about the Docks with a historic walking tour by historian and writer Kathy Chater, which includes an onboard tour of the steamship SS Robin currently under conservation works. An exhibit commemerating 100 years since the start of World War I is also onboard.
Sir Robin continued: “The festival concludes our free summer events programme which have showcased what a fantastic place Newham is and all the exciting things on offer across the borough, I hope residents come along and don’t miss out on the last chance to celebrate summer with us.”
