Newham children aim high with purpose built Rooftop Garden
The children of the new Keir Hardie Primary school, currently being rebuilt as part of the £3.7 billion Canning Town and Custom House regeneration programme, were enjoying the end of work on their rooftop Garden this week by planting a celebratory tree.
Country side Properties who have contributed £7.8 million toward the new schools development joined head teacher Violet Otieno, the Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales and 15 proud students in planting a tree in their rooftop garden at the school central to the 649 home East City Point development.
Executive director of Countryside homes Ian Sutcliffe said: “Countryside has enjoyed great sales success with private homes at East City Point and the new school building is integral to this.”
This rooftop Garden is a little more then just a Garden with a running track and educational weather centre on the list of features. The new school that will open in may, giving Newham residents 420 three to 11 year old places that are so desperately needed, comes with a children’s centre and dance studio.
Sir Robin Wales said: “We’re committed to providing our residents with great homes, excellent schools and new and exciting neighbourhoods as part of the Canning Town and Custom House regeneration programme. The completion of the new Keir Hardie School will give pupils a high quality learning environment where they can achieve the best they can. It will also become a hub to bring our community together.”
The children who planted the tree they will watch grow, as does the community it stands at the heart of, will join fellow students in something.
