Newham asks residents to ‘Make Every Drop Count’
Newham council are asking their residents to save the planet and themselves some cash with their ‘Make every Drop Count Campaign’ designed to cut down on water consumption and energy bills.
Thames water have teamed up with Newham council to give free water saving devices that can be fitted to household devices saving water in the bathroom, kitchen and heating systems which can be ordered from Thames Waters website by simply entering their Newham postcode at www.thameswater.co.uk/freebies.
Andrew Tucker, water efficiency manager at Thames Water, said: “We estimate that households can save up to £50 a year on metered-water bills and £35 on energy by installing free water-saving devices. Simple water savings at home help to keep bills down, and reduce the impact on our environment – so please get involved.”
The Energy Saving Trust say using water wisely can cut down energy bills as well as water ones with 21% of a households gas bill typically spent on warming water for baths, showers and washing up, costing on average £140 a year. Newham is leading the way for water conservation and energy efficiency for their residents to cut down these bills.
Councillor Ian Corbett, Mayoral Advisor for Environment and Leisure, said: “This partnership with Thames Water will enable us to take steps to protect the environment and save energy and money without changing the way we use water. I urge all of Newham’s residents to take advantage of this offer, which is quick and simple to access and best of all, free.”
