Newham Students get Top Grades
The Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales congratulated students on their exceptional A Level results this week, with the number of candidates achieving A* – B grades rising from 36 percent in 2013 to nearly half at 43% for 2014.
Newham schools once associated with below average achievement have a lot to celebrate this week with students achieving higher then ever in their A Level results. The number of students obtaining A* – E results increased from 95% to 98% falling in line with the national average.
Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales said “Our ‘A’ Level results have continued to improve this year and we are now seeing more young people achieve better results and out perform those in other areas of the country. I applaud the hard work of students, parents, teachers and staff”
A new collegiate sixth form centre is due to open in September 2014 offering a focused A Level curriculum and opportunity for students to study in a dedicated centre that specialises in Mathematics and Science.
The new centre based in the historically listed East Ham Town Hall Civic Campus will give students the chance to enhance their skills for life also, with an intake of 250 students in each year being given the chance to stretch themselves with a wide range of extra curricular activities to accompany their studies.
The Mayor explained “The outstanding results that our inspirational young people have achieved will put them in very good stead for the future, whether they go to university or training. And, our new collegiate sixth form centre will allow more of our young people to compete at the top and go on to the best universities”
The NCS is the academic A Level centre of a group of Newham schools, Cumberland, Kingsford, Lister, Little Ilford, Plashet, Rokeby, Royal Docks, Sarah Bonnell and stratford School Academy working in partnership with Newham it is set to raise the A Level standards of next years students even higher.
