Ambition is contagious
Whilst looking for an image of my university I stumbled upon cubo’s website: who are the advertising agency that have ran our universities campaigns for 7 years.
I see the UEL adverts every year because of where I live, but this year for the first time they jumped out at me. The ‘Ambition is contagious’ campaign is my favourite UEL campaign yet, everything about it hits the mark, with an excellent slogan and artwork. The brief itself was no easy task:
“Develop a recruitment campaign dramatising ‘The Driven’ – UEL’s core brand idea, developed by Cubo. The campaign had to engage a broad East London audience – undergraduates, full and part timers, mature students and a wide mix of international students.”
Our universities makeup is very diverse and I found myself wondering if this campaign would have sparked me to go to university sooner had I seen it years ago. The campaign seemed to follow me around my daily routine, school drop off and pickup, train to uni, the bus stop outside of TESCO when I went to pick up some food bits: it was relentless. The media buyers and planners had done an excellent job if they were trying to entice mature students and lone parents: which they were.
This year I saw the campaigns digital aspects too which I have not noticed in previous years, the ads even popped up in my tablet editions of the major newspapers. This seems in tune with the university trying to shake up their image, I am currently working on a project to replace all our old stock photography with new more edgy photos to the same avail.
Rather unsurprisingly the really exciting part of the revamp was the digital side and the deep satisfaction of knowing I can now visit the website on my phone and find what I need in a correctly displaying website. Thats right the University of East London’s website finally went ‘responsive’ and did it well with this entirely new modern website.
Thats a 10 out of 10 for cubo on a brilliantly creative campaigned that was effectively brought and planned which represents our student body, teaching faculty and university well.
