Silverstein at the London Garage
The Canadian post-hardcore band Silverstein from Burlington, Ontario descended onto the capital last night at the end of their run of ‘The Dead Reflection Tour’ promoting their latest album, yep you’ve guessed it, ‘Dead Reflection’
‘Dead Reflection’ their ninth studio album has been out since July 2017 so the fans have been more then patient in waiting to hear some of the new songs live. Luckily for them SIlverstien showed up at the Garage ready to rock and their fans were just as ready.
The Garage was always a grimey small sized venue, with a capacity of just 600, that smelt of alcohol and other peoples sweat but earlier this year it had a makeover and is now a (literally) shiny new venue. Silverstein must have barely recognised it after playing there before earlier in their careers, which Shane Told mentioned on stage early on in the set.
I personally was looking forward to this gig for a long time as I hadn’t seen Silverstien play since 2015 and although I caught them twice that year, it was barely enough to keep me going until last night. I have been a fan since the early 2000′s, the band were actually formed in 2000, Silverstein currently consists of Shane Told (vocals), Josh Bradford (guitar), Paul Koehler (drums), Bill Hamilton (bass) and Paul Marc Rousseau (guitar).
The support act was a American progressive post-hardcore band, Hail The Sun, they got the crowd hyped and opened up a few circle pits, setting the scene as it was to carry on all night, making a huge impact with their set of 8 songs.
They didn’t waste time with chatter and went straight into the set with ‘Stand Amid the Roar’ from the Album ‘This is how the wind shifts’ and were three songs in before they hit us with a song actually from ‘Dead Reflection’, then hit us with three in a row starting with the amazing ‘Whiplash’ All in all they played a good mix of older heavier songs and newer softer songs during their 15 song set.
I was a little tired and disheveled by the time the crowd started screaming for an encore but I was greatly looking forward to that too. No surprises that the last song of the encore was the hugely popular ‘My Heroine’ and just like everyone else in the venue I rocked my little heart out to it whilst singing along to every word.
It looked as if everybody had a great time and I went home very satisfied with the show which I’m sure everybody else did too.
